Hotel Medehamstede (Shanklin, United Kingdom)

The Medehamstede is close to the beach and conveniently located for Shanklin’s many attractions. Guests liked the short walk to shops and restaurants and some felt the location was the best thing about the hotel.

The Medehamstede is a popular destination for coach tours and guests found their rooms clean and comfortable and enjoyed their stopovers. They praised the hotel’s staff for their friendly and helpful service and said that nothing seemed too much trouble and service always came with a smile. Most said they would be happy to return.

Guests enjoyed the food at the Medehamstede and described the meals as varied and well cooked. They also appreciated the vegetarian menus and the staff's concern for special dietary needs. Breakfast also scored high marks. At the end of the day, the hotel’s bar and nightly entertainment was a popular option and a highlight of the stay for some guests. Most guests thought the combination of good food, accommodation and service made the Medehamstede excellent value for the money.

The Medehamstede is overdue for a facelift according to a few guests. They described the decor as dreary and faded and reported cracks and water stains on the ceilings and a generally drab appearance. Lumpy and uncomfortable beds were problems for some guests, others were unhappy that the hotel has no lift. Weak Wi-Fi signal was an additional source of frustration.

Bathrooms with no toiletries and showers with poor water pressure got the day off to a bad start for some guests at the hotel. Noting the number of elderly visitors, a few guests thought the bathtubs should have rubber mats and handrails.

Guests complained about the level of cleanliness throughtout the hotel and noted stained mattresses and carpets, dust on furniture, kettles with water scale and mould in the bathrooms.
