Positive Reviews

positive:

Good food and convivial surroundings.

The authentic atmosphere here, complete with open fire, certainly complements the meals that are served. All washed down with excellent beers from the bar; this, for many, has to be the epitome of holiday breaks in the English countryside. A chip off the Chipping Norton block.

positive:

Comfortable rooms.

Rooms are en-suite and well decorated. Beds are comfortable. Courtyard rooms are quieter than those in the main building and they are a bit bigger, with a few more ‘extras'. But the choice is yours.

positive:

The perfect location.

It's just off the village green and (of course) the village has streams running through it. The tranquil setting is the icing on the cake in this glorious location, in the middle of the Cotswolds.

Negative Reviews

negative:

Rooms need attention.

There are elements of room cleaning that are well below standard for any room … anywhere. Yes, they state that rooms over the bar may be subject bar noise … and they are … but the tariff charged is such that there should be some attempt at soundproofing.

negative:

Pay the electricity bill (*Joke).

Lights flicker and detract from the enjoyment of the meal. Over-loaded circuits? Whatever the problem, it's one that needs sorting, in order to merit the prices charged.

negative:

Food is overpriced.

It all comes down to money, value and pricing. If they adopted the same principle to meal portions and content, as they do to menu costing, then that would be a good start! There is absolutely nothing wrong with exceptional ‘pub grub'.  A few embellishments and over enthusiasm with the wording on the menus  ... don't make it into something else.
