Oxford Castle (Oxford, United Kingdom)

The Norman Castle in Oxford was originally built by Robert d’Oilly as a stone motte and bailey fortress. Still visible are the square St George’s Tower, the hexagonal well chamber and the walls. The Castle was preserved within a later structure which until recently was used as Oxford Prison. Both areas have been refurbished and opened recently as ‘Unlocked’ - a series of exhibitions and audiovisual presentations recounting the history and usage of both the Castle and the Prison. There is a gift shop, cafe and learning centre on site. Open daily 10am - 5pm (Closed Christmas Day) Tickets: Adult: £ 6.95 Senior, student: £ 5.95 Child: £ 5.25 Oxford runs a Park and Ride scheme for commuters into the city centre Because of the nature of the buildings, wheelchair access is restricted.
