Both the main house and coach house are luxuriously appointed, with period antiques and decorated tastefully. There are beautiful views of the valley from practically every room and guests are encouraged to spread out. There are also several common areas, from lounges to dining rooms.
The bed and breakfast does have an alcohol licence and drinks can be served. There is also an "Honesty Bar", where guests can serve themselves. This benefit saves on the expense and cost of going out for cocktails and the prices are very reasonable.
The drive to the hotel is lovely. It is situated well in the country and the drives through quaint towns along the way really allow you to leave the hustle and bustle of city life behind. Some routes have drives right along the coast and many will get to see the historic and famed Peak Rail steam trains in action.
The hotel sits just off the A6, the busy main road through the area. Some road noise can be occasionally head in the rooms and in the coach house but most guests said this not to have spoilt their stay. Also, the house is a bit hard to find since it is surrounded by shrubbery and trees, so be sure to watch for the road signs.
The hosts can be very genial when all goes as planned. However, very busy times or guests who arrive late might not receive the same warm welcome and service. Busy mornings in the dining room can also leave guests waiting for a hot cup of tea or famished until breakfast finally arrives.
Breakfast and dinner is served, but the selections are home-made, not chef-inspired and prepared. For those who want more exciting fare, the closest restaurants will require a car for either direction.
