Peak District National Park (Bakewell, United Kingdom)
The Peak District National Park covers an area of 555 square miles (1,438 square km) and spans a section of six different English counties (Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and South and West Yorkshire). Established in 1951 this was Britain’s first National Park, incorporating the southern end of the Pennine mountains. The highest point within the Peak District National Park is Kinder Scout at 636 metres above sea level. The Park is surrounded on all sides by several large conurbations (Manchester, Sheffield, Huddersfield, Derby and Stoke on Trent), but only 38,000 people live within the actual boundaries of the Park. Bakewell is the largest settlement within the Park and its only town. It is also where the head office of the Peak District National Park can be found.
