Peak District Mining Museum (Matlock Bath, United Kingdom)
The Peak District Mining Museum is housed within the town’s pavilion and includes various displays relating to the lead mines that surrounded this area between the 17th and early 20th century. Displays include some of the original tools that the miners would have used and there are also displays of rock samples and minerals. For younger visitors there is a climbing wall, designed to replicate the face of a mine shaft and there is also a hazard tunnel which visitors can crawl through on their hands and knees. Located close to the pavilion is Temple Mine, a surviving example of one of the local mines, which has been preserved and restored to how it would have looked in its heyday. Admission charges for either the museum or Temple Mine are £3.00 for adults, £2.50 with concessions or £2.00 for children. Alternatively a combined ticket that allows entry to both areas is available at £5.00 for adults, £4.50 with concessions or £3.00 for children. Family tickets and group discounts are available. The museum is open daily from 10am until 5pm during the summer and from 11am until 4pm during winter. The mine is open daily from 11am until 4pm during the summer and from midday until 3pm during weekends only in the winter. Facilities include a car park, a gift shop and toilets, which are fully equipped for disabled visitors. The museum is fully accessible by disabled visitors but parts of the mine are not.
