The 4-star Bay Horse Inn, West Woodburn, is a delightful 18th century coaching Inn built in mellowed sandstone, nestling by a stone bridge over the River Rede in the Rede Valley of Northumberland. This is the place to stop on your journey: to rest, eat, drink well and relax in a warm, friendly, informal atmosphere. Take a short break and enjoy all that this tranquil area of the country can offer. There is plenty of parking and our garden stretches down to the River Rede with a grass play area and garden tables. The bedrooms are all individually designed and are in keeping with a county Inn. The bedrooms are en-suite and have the comfort you would expect including tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers, trouser press etc. While you are staying here you may like to know a little of the history of this area - it has great natural beauty and its history has often been turbulent! The Battle of Otterburn in 1388 saw the fallen dead of the Percy and Douglas families stained the river Rede with blood - giving the river its name. The Border Reivers (raiders) are remembered in the surviving castles. There are many reminders of the Roman occupation along Hadrian's Wall.
