Waldgeist (Hofheim am Taunus, Germany)

This restaurant is renowned for serving the world’s largest burgers and schnitzels. The XXXXXL menu has burgers with a diameter of 12 inches, rump steaks weighing 2½ lbs and 1¼ lbs worth of sausage, curry sauce and chips. The beer comes in ½, 1 or 2 litre quantities. A speciality is the “Bembel des Todes” (Bembel of death). A “Bembel” is a local earthenware jug, traditionally grey with blue decoration, which was used for serving cider. The Waldgeist variation offers it in an 8 litre size filled with Bacardi, coke and ice. Normal sizes of everything are available. The cost of the 12 inch burger is €14, the rump steak €32.70 and the Bembel €74. The restaurant has a seating capacity of 100 inside and 150 outside in the beer garden. It is open every day from 11am to midnight, reservation necessary. Credit cards are not accepted.
