Stadshuset (Stockholm, Sweden)

Stadshuset is the Swedish name given to Stockholm’s City Hall. Construction of the building began in 1911 but it was not completed until 1923. The architectural style has been described as national romanticism and its focal point is its monumental tower. This tower has three crowns on top of it, three crowns have long been associated as a national symbol of Sweden. There are 365 steps that lead up to the top of this tower, which stands 106 metres high. Today the Stadshuset houses several different ceremonial halls and conference rooms and it also has a restaurant called Stadshuskällaren. It is however probably best known as the venue of the banquet following the Nobel Prize ceremony. The Stadshuset is located close to the centre of the city, standing on the eastern edge of Kungsholmen Island, adjacent to the northern shore of Riddarfjärden.
