Mon Repos (Corfu-Town, Greece)

Mon Repos is a palace which dates from 1826 and which was the birthplace of Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh in 1921. It was a residence of King George I of Greece and also the home of Governor Parini during the Italian occupation. It is located near the archaeological site of Palaeopolis, which is believed to have been the original site of ancient Kerkyra. After the monarchy ended the estate became managed by the Municipality of Corfu and now houses the Archaeological Museum of Palaiopolis. Exhibits include Byzantine items, British furnishings and uniforms, as well as archaeological discoveries and other Ionian artefacts. Mon Repos is open daily from 08h30 to 15h00 except on Mondays. Normal admission fees for adults are €3 but there is free admission on Sundays during November to March.
