Hotel The Crown (Colchester, United Kingdom)

This is a pristine historic building nestled in a beautiful Suffolk village surrounded by exquisitely-maintained gardens. The interior is just as pretty as the outside and the meals complete the package. There is plenty of parking. The relaxed pub atmosphere is inviting and all meal courses are prepared to perfection. Favourites range from local sausages, bubble and squeak, porridge, fresh fruit and toast with preserves for breakfast, to fish and chips, chicken Kiev, goat curry, a variety of game meats, and vegetarian dishes for the later mains, and ending with salted caramel and various chocolate options for dessert. The beer and wine selection is outstanding and overall the experience is a good value.

Spacious rooms with plenty of thick towels, refreshing complimentary toiletries, lots of electrical outlets to charge your devices and quality amenities working optimally. Some rooms open onto patios or terraces and the views are quite stunning. Tea/coffee provisions are well-stocked and fresh milk is given upon your arrival. Even the standard rooms are high quality and luxurious.

The customer service is excellent and all staff are polite and friendly.

Some found their favourite items didn't make it onto the breakfast buffet or later menus. However, the menu changes frequently.

A few complaints cannot be avoided and, for this locale, it seems the steak and other meal preparations aren't always perfect, and the portion sizes can be a bit small for some. Most considered the portions and tasty dining choices delightful, however.

If you arrive on busier days/evenings, you may find you wait a while to be served. The orders may be taken promptly, but the meal takes it time coming out. Have some patience and order an appetiser or drinks.
