The Flatford Mill is located in the tiny hamlet of Flatford near East Bergholt from where it can be reached by a access road that ends in a large parking lot for visitors (fees apply). A visitor centre with information about all the properties in the area that have been immortalized in the paintings of John Constable is located directly at the car park, Flatford Mill is a short walk away. A second parking lot for guests taking part in courses of the Field Studies Council can be found just metres from the mill. Flatford Mill, a Grade I listed property of the 18th century, was once owned buy the artists father and features in many of his paintings. One of his most famous paintings, The Hay Wain, was painted from the court in front of the building. The property itself is now run by the Field Studies Council who organize courses for groups, families and individuals on a variety of subjects. Courses are available. Accommodation and catering can be provided but there is no access into the properties for anyone not taking part in a course.
