Being situated right in the town centre of Barcelona and within minutes of the iconic street, Las Ramblas, doesn't have to cost the earth, as Hostal Abrevadero proves. Hostels often are associated with large dormitories and shared bathrooms. Not here. Whilst you can get rooms with up to five beds, there are also single and double rooms. They are all en-suite with a shower and flat-screen TV. Hostal Abrevadero offers free Wi-Fi throughout and a 24-hour front desk. Paid parking is also available. The hotel has a basic bar and restaurant onsite. However, there is a multitude of tapas bars, cafés and restaurants nearby. Las Ramblas is only five minutes walk away and the port can be reached in ten minutes by foot. The gothic cathedral is just 1.3 kilometres away and the nearby metro can take guests to Gaudi's (still) unfinished cathedral - La Sagrada Familia - and surreal Parc Guëll.
Guests feel the lable 'hostel' doesn't do this place justice. Whilst it indicates that the establishment offers great value, many feel that it is worthy of a hotel status. For the price you pay you may get a basic room, however, it is functional with a comfy bed and en-suite bathroom. If you are travelling by yourself or as a couple, you can still benefit from the superb value - with single and double rooms available.
You may expect the service to reflect the price. However, guests are surprised to find that the staff on reception are extremely friendly and professional. They are good at giving tips as to where to visit or eat out.
You couldn't be much better located to explore Barcelona – incredible really for the price. Las Ramblas is just a short walk away and the Metro station is just a couple of minutes by foot – opening up all of the city.
If you're expecting a quiet night's sleep, you may be frustrated. The main problem seems to be other guests determined to party. The walls are poorly soundproofed and you can hear people returning in the night – as well as showers and toilets from neighbouring rooms.
Whilst you can't complain too much about the quality of the rooms, many guests have to admit that they are a bit tired. The furniture is old and the place could do with a bit of refreshment.
Guests warn that there is no air-conditioning in the room and you may not even get a fan. This could be a problem if you are travelling at a sticky and humid time of year.
