Accommodations in Chenonceaux near Château de Chenonceau (Chenonceaux, France)
Château de Chenonceau (Chenonceaux, France)
One of the most famous of the Chateau of the Loire, although not actually on the Loire itself, but on a tributary, the Indre. The building spans the river from bank to bank. The Chateau had many famous owners/occupants, many of them women, (including Diane de Poitiers), giving it the nickname “Chateau des Dames”. Most of the building we see today dates from the 16th century. Surrounded by acres of grounds, including formal French-style gardens and parkland. Besides the Chateau there are also waxworks, a 16th century farm and a maze. Boat riding on the Cher river is available and there are a number of eateries on the premises, an art gallery and souvenir shop. Details of the various hours of operation and tariffs are available at the website. Disabled accessibility is limited to the gardens and ground floor of the Chateau.
