Ye Olde Carlton Arms in New York might sound like a traditional English Pub but nothing could be further from the truth. This hotel started out as an art project in the 1980s in which a group of artists painted the rooms of a rather run-down building. Today it has evolved into a bizarre art hotel with each of its 54 rooms decorated by artists from around the world and every room a work of art in its own right. The hotel is located at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and 25th Street and offers bright, cheerful, but basic budget accommodation with a difference in a safe and peaceful neighbourhood between the Theatre District and Greenwich Village. Rooms with shared or private bathrooms are available and rooms with shared facilities all have their own sinks. Single, double/twin, triple and quad rooms are all available and rooms have neither TVs nor telephones though the latter are available in the lobby. Internet access is available from 8 am to midnight.
