About The Ragged Cot

Imagine; a 17th-century country coaching house inn with roaring log fires inside and, outside, Gloucestershire’s rolling Cotswolds. This is The Ragged Cot; a traditional and convivial hostelry offering shabby chic luxuries for the comfort of visiting guests. The nine country-style rooms are en suite with a flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities, and some super and complimentary toiletries. There are outside areas in which to enjoy the Gloucestershire sunshine and parking is free at The Ragged Cot. With a fair wind, this country idyll is, unbelievably, approximately a two hours' drive from London. A full English cooked breakfast is included in the tariff. Thereafter, visitors can join the local regulars in sampling the varied lunch and dinner menus. During the day, The Shed is also open for coffee and snacks. With its royal connections, Gatcombe is less than two miles away. It is 17 miles to the world-famous literary and music festivals in Cheltenham and to shows at the prestigious Everyman Theatre.

Positive Reviews

positive:

Deserves a higher rating

For the quality of the accommodation, its original décor and antiques, not to mention its high quality food and service, many guests feel that The Ragged Cot deserves a four or even five star rating.

positive:

Cosy retreat

The fabulous setting of the inn is loved by many guests. Just a stones-throw from the ancient market town of Minchinhampton, it is an ideal base to explore the Coltswolds. After a long day, guests like relaxing in front of the roaring log fires, or chilling out in the gardens.

positive:

Food, glorious food

The restaurant has an excellent reputation and guests love the range of dished on offer. Yes, you'll find traditional pub fayre, but also more up-market, semi-gastronomic dishes using high quality ingredients. It is not cheap, but guests find that it offers good value for money for the size and quality that is offered.

Negative Reviews

negative:

Busy, busy, busy

The restaurant can get rather busy and sometimes tables may be difficult to come by. This can be annoying for guests who presume they'll be able to eat there and find that there are no tables available and they'll either have to wait or go elsewhere. It's probably best to book a table in advance.

negative:

Insulation is a bit thin

Being in a 17th century building shows sometimes. And sometimes it is heard too. Some guests find the wooden floorboards too thin, whilst there is an inevitable traffic noise coming from the main road that runs in front.

negative:

A bit pricey

Some guests feel that The Ragged Cot is overpriced for what it is. Some have gripes with the small room sizes and others with the meals, which seem to value presentation over substance. Bumping the prices up when big events are on locally also doesn't go down well.
