Blaise Castle House Museum and Estate is a 19th century mansion, built between 1796-98, surrounded by 400 acres of parkland. It shelters a collection of objects related to social history. Every day items from past centuries such as Victorian toilets and baths, dolls, toys and period costumes are just a few examples. The Picture Room at Blaise Castle House Museum displays its personal collection of paintings and is licensed for civil ceremonies. The folly castle, mentioned in Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey , is opened from 2pm to 4pm on some summer Sundays. The grounds are open to the public for walks through parkland and woodland. There is an adventure playground and a café. Opening hour are from Saturday to Wednesday 10am to 5pm. Bus numbers 1, 40 and 40a run from the city centre and stop near the museum. Admission is free.
