Occupying an imposing 19th century town house, The Drake offers comfortable accommodation minutes away from the town’s attractions and landmarks. The traditionally furnished rooms are equipped with flat-screen televisions, tea and coffee making facilities as well as complimentary toiletries. All of the 11 en-suites have free Wi-Fi access. Guests staying at The Drake can watch their favourite sports on the large flat screen in the bar and take advantage of free on-site parking. Continental as well as freshly prepared breakfasts are available on-site whilst guests can enjoy their lunch and evening meals at some of the nearby cafes and restaurants such as the Terrace Cafe, Wet Wok and Maritimo Wine & Tapas Bar. The Plymouth Hoe, Theatre Royal, Elizabethan House and Plymouth Barbican are all in close proximity to the guest house. Smeaton's Tower and Mayflower Steps are also close by. The guest house is just a short stroll away from the waterfront which many found convenient especially those who arrived here by ferry. Guests who were keen to visit some of the attractions and historical monuments were pleased to find that they could walk to many of the places of interest such as the Barbican and Theatre Royal.
Guests said that they had everything they needed in their rooms for a comfortable stay including flat-screen televisions and hospitality trays. Many were pleased to report that they had plenty of space in their en-suites meaning they could move around easily in between the furniture and appreciated having ample storage space.
Apart from an extensive continental buffet guests were also impressed by the quality of the freshly prepared dishes which they said were made using fresh quality ingredients. Those who had dietary restrictions appreciated the vegetarian and gluten-free options as well as the portions which were described as being of generous size.
Guests reported that they experienced difficulties whilst showering due to the very low pressure which meant that water was coming out as a trickle. Some also found it cumbersome adjusting the right temperature.
There is no lift on the premises and guests whose rooms were on the upper floors said they found it quite tiring having to climb several flights of stairs whilst carrying their luggage. If you have any mobility issues it's advisable to ask for a room on the lower floors.
Guests who wanted to connect to the Internet said that the Wi-Fi signal was rather weak particularly in rooms located on the top floor of the building.
