Lovely Spindle Lodge retains the charm of a Victorian townhouse, and is located on a quiet street across from the University of Leicester. Guests can enjoy a full English breakfast here. Rooms are located on the first and second floor, and come comfortably equipped with colour TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and a hair dryer. Broadband Internet access is available, and an iron and ironing board can be provided on request. Rooms are designated non-smoking. There is a small bar and lounge where smoking is permitted, and where guests can socialise or unwind at the end of the day. Guests with cars are offered limited parking in front. Several excellent restaurants are within a five-minute walk away, including Marquis traditional pub with a beer garden, and Saray Mangal for Turkish BBQ in a relaxed setting. Shop until you drop at The Shires Centre, a 20-minute walk from Spindle Lodge.
Guests thought that Spindle Lodge was very well positioned in Leicester. There was no shortage of places to get to on foot, including an abundance of art and entertainment options like Y Theatre, Little Theatre, and De Montfort Concert Hall, each ten minutes or less away. Sports fans also had an easy commute, with Welford Road Stadium and the local rugby team a short walk from this bed and breakfast.
The personable host was seen as a boon for business. Always smiling and ready to offer up local information, guests enjoyed her company at breakfast and check-in.
From the moment guests saw the ivy-covered stone facade, they knew that they were in for something different. Dating back to 1867, guests were in for a historic treat at Spindle Lodge. Interiors had charm to spare, and guests thought that they were receiving a bargain based on the period decor that was far from cookie cutter.
Some guests described rooms as shabby chic, with sometimes more shabby than chic. Unsubstantiated reports exist that a makeover is a priority, but until then, guests will have to make do with decor that could be considered tired at times.
