Built for a young squire in 1850, Marlagh Lodge is a country house offering accommodation with traditional décor and hospitality, but very modem amenities. There are just three rooms, all of which have been furnished and decorated to a high standard. Each features private bathroom with indulgent bathroom amenities, discreetly placed TV’s and free Wi-Fi access. Guests are welcome to use the back courtyard, which is specially placed to make the most of the many sunny days available. The hosts are also on hand to provide local knowledge to guests on request. Breakfast is an extensive spread, consisting of a traditional Ulster Fry as well as a range of lighter options. Dinner is available in the elegant dining room. The chef chooses only the highest quality local produce to create traditional Irish dishes. Though situated in lovely rural surrounds, the centre of Ballymena is just 2.5 miles drive away.

Guests simply couldn't write enough good things about the owner, Robert, who was said to be excellent on several counts. Guests say he gave them an especially warm welcome, and included very much appreciated tea and cake for weary travellers at the end of a long journey. Also, many guests mentioned that he has a wealth of local knowledge and gave them superb recommendations that really worked out for them.
Guests mentioned that the house décor and furniture is very much in keeping with the age and style of the building itself. They speak of it containing unique period pieces that put them in mind of an historical novel, and also of it having lovely decorative elements that really fitted in with the rest of the house.
While not often mentioned, it was reported that the house contains a wealth of books, housed on bookshelves that are placed in many sections of the house. It was felt that only guests with exceptionally specific tastes would not be able to find something that they liked to read. Most would be able to find a great book and ensconce themselves in the guest lounge to enjoy it.
