Situated on Paris’ Left bank, and just steps from Gare Montparnasse, L' Εsperance offers very simple accommodation to those who need good value close to local and intercity transport facilities. The compact rooms are very basic in terms of furniture and decor, but have the facilities you’ll need for a good nights rest. The have en-suite bathrooms telephones and even TV’s for a bit of entertainment or information. Reception is open 24 hours and ready to assist, while Wi-Fi in public areas is free of charge. A basic continental breakfast is available every morning at the hotel for a fee, but there is certainly no shortage of great dining option nearby. Reception staff will be happy to offer some great local restaurant recommendations. This neighbourhood of course includes not only Gare Montparnasse, but also Tour Montparnasse, from where you will be able to survey the whole of the City of Light.
The hotel is very close to Gare Montparnasse. It seems guests appreciated the convenience this entailed. It was not only great when they were arriving and departing from the intercity station, but also provided great access to Paris’ metro system.
Pretty much all guests bringing up the question of value for money felt they had receive good value during their stay. They felt the room rates were quite low considering the convenient location and the fact that the hotel was neat and tidy.
Guests were, on the whole, happy with the cleanliness of their room and the public spaces of the hotel, saying that the maids did a decent job keeping things looking neat and tidy during the course of their stay.
A number of guests reported that there was no lift in the building at all – not even a tiny one common to many Parisian hotels. Since the building is four storeys high this resulted in a bit of climbing for some guests during their stay, which was especially tiresome when carrying their luggage to and from the room.
Guests were not happy that there was no Wi-Fi available in the rooms. The hotel does not seem to be set up for this, with it only being accessible in the pubic area around the reception. While this may have got guests out of their room, it seems that they did not appreciate the inconvenience of not being able to use it in their room.
It was mentioned that the rooms wee exceptionally small. Going by the reviews, it seems they were large enough for the bed, a small walkway around it and very little else. Some found this a bit cramped.
