Gilligans Backpackers is a local institution in Cairns and the go-to budget backpacker place in the heart of the city. Gilligans Backpackers has a range of accommodation to suit every budget including mixed dorms, female only dorms, twins and private doubles. All rooms have an en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning. Gilligans Backpackers will pick guests up from the airport with its free shuttle. There is a lagoon style pool and a Deck Bar and daily entertainment and activities are provided centered around the outdoor pub within the complex. There are four self-catering kitchens in the backpackers or if guests do not wish to cook the backpackers puts on a cheap evening meal. A supermarket is also only a five minute walk away. The famous Cairns Lagoon is a seven minute walk from the backpackers and the Marina for trips out to the Great Barrier Reef is a 15 minute walk away.
A number of backpackers lazed away their day by the pool at the hostel and these good times featured in their reviews about the property. There is also a bar with many TV screens to catch the big game and the pool is a hub for the hostels activity program.
