Tangkupan Perahu (Bandung, Indonesia)

Tangkupan Perahu is located in a park about 30km north of the city and is one of Bandung’s most popular tourist attractions. This active volcano is 1830 metres high and the last eruption was in 1969 when ash and debris was hurled 500m high. Since then the volcano has been quiet, though an alert was sounded in 1992 when increased activity was detected. Tangkupan Perhau has five craters of which three are considered to still be active. The main crater, known as Kawah Ratu or Queen’s Crater, is easily reached and offers car parking and many snack and souvenir vendors. It is possible to hike around or into the crater and from there to reach the more active Kawah Domas (with an old sulphur mine and pools of boiling water where eggs can be boiled) or the more active Kawah Upas. Admission to the park costs IDR35,000 (Euros 3.00)
