Danube Palace (Budapest, Hungary)

The Danube Palace began life in the 1880’s as the Casino of Lipótváros, and was a venue not for gambling but for entertainment. It retains this function today, hosting concerts, opera and dance events. Many famous musicians have appeared here including Bartok and Dvorak. Particular emphasis is placed on traditional Hungarian folk music and regular performances are held. It is also popular for receptions, weddings and as a film set. The Palace was built in the neo-Baroque style and much of the decoration is original having survived the Second World War and the Communist era. As well as the domed Theatre, there are other smaller rooms such as the Brown Salon and the Széchenyi Salon. There is a restaurant but it is only available for private functions.
