Mercure Hotel München Altstadt (Munich, Germany)

Tourists love the hotel's location on a quiet side street in the heart of the city, often commenting that Marienplatz, the Christmas markets, Old Town, and the Viktualienmarkt are all within a very short walk. The English Garden is within a healthy 25-minute walk, but sightseers also note that it (and just about anything else you'd care to see in Munich) is easily accessible via the many nearby U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations.

Guests generally describe the rooms as spotlessly clean and comfortable, with good air conditioning, a few international channels on television, and (best of all!) complimentary non-alcoholic drinks in the minibar. Many consider the beds exceptionally cosy, too.

Guests rave about the breakfast buffet, which is served in a cafe adjacent to the hotel. The machine for squeezing oranges and the fresh honeycombs are among the highlights of the many delicious choices on offer, which also include sausages, eggs, breads, pastries, cold meats, cheeses, and cereals.

Recent travellers have been dismayed to find there is an extensive construction site next door to the hotel, and wish that some advance notice (or a rate reduction) had been provided. The work is very loud and starts early in the morning.

Room sizes and layout vary throughout the building, as do the rates; some have described the standard rooms as too small, while the suites are described as spacious.

Though the staff earn many positive reviews for pleasant, efficient service, some of the reception personnel have been described as unfriendly or unaccommodating.
