The Red Lion is a 17th Century coaching inn on the A619 which is a main thoroughfare through Bakewell, the sole Market Town in the Peak District National Park. Each of the five en-suite double rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, a TV and hair dryer. All rooms are located on the first floor and have out of hours access when the pub is closed. The Red Lion has a lounge area, large garden and free Wi-Fi in rooms and public areas. The pub serves real ales among its drinks selection and the 30-seat restaurant offers traditional pub meals and a specials menu daily. A children's menu and highchairs are available. Opposite the inn are the award-winning Bath Gardens, local markets take place nearby every week and, further afield, Sheffield is 13-miles away, and Manchester and Derby 30-miles away.

A frequent remark is that the service provided by the staff is more akin to the kind you'd receive from a luxury hotel; nothing is too much trouble and the team are friendly, knowledgeable and professional.
The general consensus is that The Red Lion gets the basics completely right; rooms are not full of mod cons but are clean and newly decorated. They are spacious and the beds are comfortable, with crisp white bed linen.

Depending on when you visit, parking may be an issue. The hotel can supply a voucher for free afternoon and overnight parking, but they do not have an unlimited number, so well worth giving early notice if you require one.
The pub is a busy one and the restaurant is not large so, if you are considering staying for dinner, it is best to book. Guests have, in the past, been unable to dine at their preferred time.
