Hotel The Bowery (New York, USA)

This beautifully-appointed boutique hotel takes you back in time with its vintage furnishings and ornately detailed fixtures. The lobby and bar decor are of the highest quality, with hallways and elevators adorned to continue the theme throughout the premises. Comfortable seating is provided in the lounge next to a crackling fireplace on the main level. There's also a top notch fitness room, excellent Wi-Fi and an assortment of DVDs. Enjoy a beverage at the bar or a meal in the restaurant on your way through town if you haven't already checked in as a guest; you will be equally thrilled and enticed with the level of service provided. Don't be surprised to find a personalized thank you note in your mailbox when you get home; that's just the type of establishment this is.

Most found the staff to be charismatic and fun here, from the dapper and hip doormen to the wait staff, housekeeping and front desk. Your wish is basically their command, so flag someone down and ask them for whatever you need. They're considered tremendously responsive, warm and attentive from arrival to departure.

Comfortable, cozy accommodations with floor-to-ceiling windows and fully-stocked mini-bars. Enjoy the reading nook for your evening relaxation. The complimentary toiletries are refreshing and rainfall shower heads pack excellent water pressure. Robes/slippers and teddy bears will complete your stay.

Some felt their rooms and beds were a bit small, even by NYC standards.

Not everyone appreciates the hipster staff here; some found them smug and aloof and without the charisma others bragged on.

Ask for an upper level room and bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper; windows are soundproof but some city traffic can still be heard.
