Situated just a few minutes drive from Hastings historical sites, Minstrel’s Rest is an award winning B&B with a medieval theme running throughout. Complete with suits of armour and battle axes. The rooms also have a bit of a medieval feel to them, but naturally have all the modern conveniences. Each features en-suite bathroom, tea/coffee stations, minibars with juice and milk, and TV with freeview channels. The hosts are available to answer any questions about the local area, and free unrestricted parking is available on the street out front. Breakfast is served daily, and consists of both cooked and continental style buffet options. Special diets are also catered for. Minstrels Rest is fully licensed, and the bar serves real ale, and other drinks, with pride. The coast and the centre of town are about 2.3 miles from the B&B, while the ruins of Hastings Castle are about 1.7 miles away.
Many guests pointed out that, while the B&B was some distance from Hastings town centre, it compensated for this by being on a relatively quiet road, so they could sleep in peace without being disturbed by traffic or revellers.
Again and again guests praised the hosts, Pill and Michelle, for being exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Their attitude seemed to put them at ease immediately. They were also said to be a wealth of information on the many historical sites in 1066 country.
Many of the guests commented on the most unusual medieval theme that runs throughout. While it would have been easy for it to fail horribly, since the B&B is not in a castle or other appropriate building, it seems to have worked, with guests saying they really liked it.
It seems there really isn't any off-street parking. While the street outside has free and unrestricted parking, a spot near Minstrels Rest can obviously not be guaranteed. Guests speak about searching in vain for a nearby spot, and ending up having to park some distance away.
A few guests mentioned that their room, and especially the en-suite, was simply too small. It seems that most rooms are bigger, but at least one or two are exceptionally small.
While most did enjoy the location, other said that it was too far from restaurants and other amenities, and it required a trip by car to access these.
