Hotel Lumes (Vienna, Austria)

Everyone is very pleasant and helpful. It’s just a bit disconcerting that there is no night cover on reception.

This is where the hotel scores heavily. The second-floor setting doesn’t have any noise problems. Also, the location is perfect for easy walking access to city centre attractions and facilities.

The hotel is very clean and the price compares very favourably with those of other hotels in this very expensive city.

Furnishings and décor are very old, but not in an attractive antique way; more just old and drab. The Wi-Fi only seems to work – in a fashion – when reception staff members are working. They only work office hours and when they close, the Wi-Fi seems to go into a similar mode. Free parking is extremely limited and is a mile or so away; so not a particularly appealing prospect. You can park nearby, but fees will hit the budget. When you check-out, expect to find a cleaning charge on your account.

Breakfast is basic and the quality doesn’t match the hotel’s star rating. It isn’t managed very well either. Items run out and aren’t replaced. Sometimes there is hardly anything to eat at all.

The hotel is on the second floor of a residential type building. There’s only a very small sign and you have to go through an iron gate to even get to the lift which takes you to the hotel reception. The lift is tiny and can only take one person and luggage. There is stair access but this isn’t attractive for families weighed down with baggage and kids.
