With décor inspired by the Art-Nouveau movement, and situated in a historic Viennese building, the Hotel Johann Strauss Hotel offers elegant accommodation to business and leisure travellers alike. The rooms have simple, but elegant, décor, and feature air conditioning, minibars, in-room safes, work desks, TV’s and telephones. Reception is available 24 hours and can assist with tours, transfers, luggage storage and basic business services. Wi-Fi is available throughout and there is also a communal computer for guest use. While Vienna is, perhaps unusually for its size, quite spread out, guests found the location of the hotel pretty central. They couldn't walk to all the attraction they wished to visit but, being close to the metro station, they found it very easy to get around.
While it is normally impossible to find any guests who actually like the background music played in hotels, it was mentioned that the Strauss music played in some parts of the Johann Straus was quite appropriate, and even enjoyable at times.
Another fairly rare compliment for continental hotels, guests from several nations raved about the hotel's breakfast, saying that it is a varied and tasty buffet - definitely not the proverbial “coffee and croissant”.
Of course Vienna is best known for its cafes, but many guests didn't necessarily feel like heading to one every time they wanted a coffee or tea. No matter how good they were. So some were very disappointed to report that there were no tea or coffee making facilities in their rooms.
The rooms seem to be undergoing renovations, but as of early 2016 it seems the hotel had both renovated and unrenovated rooms available. Many guests in the older rooms commented that they did look a bit tired. They didn't seem to have any problems with the state of repair, it was more a question of aesthetics. The newly renovated rooms, however, seem to get the thumbs up.
Many guests seemed to have had problems with internal noise disturbing them at night, and in the early mornings. They spoke of hearing (real) voices from the hallway and adjoining rooms, as well as doors slamming.
