The traditional Railway Tavern public house is part of Clifton. Superbly located opposite the railway station and about 200 yards from Weymouth’s glorious beach, the hotel is certainly on the right tracks in the opinions of visiting guests. En-suite rooms at Clifton include a flat-screen TV and tea and coffee facilities. Family rooms are available. Wi-Fi is free throughout the building. Permits are issued to allow free parking. Darts and billiards are among the features in the adjoining public house which is welcoming to hotel guests. Breakfast choices are served daily and are complimentary. Enzo Ristorante & Pizzeria, and Chillies contemporary Bangladeshi & Indian Restaurant are within 200 yards of the hotel. Just beyond Alexandra Gardens, and less than one mile away, are Weymouth Pier and the Jurassic Skyline observation tower; also year-round live entertainment at the 988 seat Pavilion Theatre. It is also around one mile to the fascinating Sandworld Weymouth Sand Sculptures, and to Weymouth Sea Life Park.

From the hotel it’s an easy stroll to the beach, harbour and town centre attractions. This particular area is a bit downbeat, but the upside of that is that the hotel tariff is somewhat cheaper than those on the sea front.

There are quite a few stairs to the rooms and of course, no lift; but you wouldn’t expect that. This is OK for most, but any elderly, infirm and disabled should maybe think again before booking.
There is a bit of noise from the neighbourhood, generally, but not the railway station opposite! The pub has a robust programme of music and entertainment but you can hardly hear it in most rooms.
Breakfast is good but service a tad on the slow side.
