Escale Hotel, 500 metres from Brussels-Midi railway station, makes for a good value stopover for those visiting the Belgian capital. The 35 en-suite bedrooms - equipped with showers - are of a stylish, and basic design. Each has a TV and free toiletries included. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout Escale Hotel and guests can check-in round the clock thanks to the 24-hour reception. Paid parking is available and a shuttle service can be arranged to take guests to Charleroi airport. The onsite restaurant offers a buffet breakfast for a small supplement. There are places to eat near the railway station too and, of course, plenty of Belgian specialities including Moules-frites around the Grand Place. Guests can either walk to the Grand Place, around two kilometres away, or take a tram from the station. The close proximity to the station also makes visiting other quaint Belgian towns, such as Bruges and Ghent, quite simple.

Guests travelling to Brussels by rail find this hotel to be ideally situated - right next to Brussels-Midi railway station. You can easily catch a tram to the Grand Place or a train to Bruges, Amsterdam, Paris or wherever takes your fancy. If you're travelling by air or bus you are equally well placed. There are regular shuttles to the airport from near the hotel and a coach stop for Paris.
The hotel may be basic, but it is clean and guests find that, relative to other hotels in Brussels, it offers good value and great rates. The beds are comfy and the rooms are spacious. Although you may not want to stay more than a night or two, you may find it a great place to stop over and see the sights before moving on.
Guests are happy to find that for the price they pay they get a relatively reliable Wi-Fi connection included.
The surrounding area is pretty busy and noisy and guests in street-facing rooms are often disturbed by the din. However, many also recount that they can hear every little noise from adjoining bedrooms as the walls are so poorly insulated.
Some basic things that guests assume will be provided are missing. Don't expect to be able to make yourself a drink on arrival - there are no tea and coffee making facilities, kettles or even a minibar. For the price you pay, you may not expect air-conditioning either, but guests are shocked to find that the hotel doesn't even provide towels!
Whilst the rooms are clean and tidy, guests find the decor to be a bit sad. They look a bit dated and need an upgrade.
