    Padre Island National Seashore is a 110 km long protected area located southeast of Corpus Christi. Access to the park is approximately 43 miles from the city centre and most of its 130,434 acres is only accessible by boat or 4WD vehicles. The park, which is the longest undeveloped stretch of barrier island worldwide, was established in 1968 and runs a program for the conservation of endangered sea turtles. Various interpretive programs are also presented. Padre Island National Seashore is noted for its marine life and fishing opportunities and is also a habitat for almost 45% of all North American bird species. One may also encounter coyotes and Western diamondback rattlesnakes. Activities include watersports, hiking, hunting and camping.
