Otago Peninsula (Dunedin, New Zealand)

Otago Peninsula is a post-volcanic, rugged peninsula stretching along the southern edge of the Otago Harbour inlet. It is a wildlife haven and an area of largely unspoilt contryside near to Dunedin, with hills covered in green pastures, many coves and inlets with both rocky cliffs and sandy beaches. A complete circuit of the peninsula is around 65km and it is a popular day-trip self-drive destination from Dunedin. Various guided tours are also provided by local tour operators. The peninsula is known for breeding sites for Yellow Eyed and Little Blue penguins, Royal Albatross, fur seals and sea lions. Attractions on the peninsula include penguin watching tours, Albatross nesting site, Larnach Castle, Portobello Marine Laboratory (aquarium) and numerous walking tracks and view points.
