Nossa Senhora do Carmen da Penha is the full name of the church or Santuário da Penha (Sanctuary of the rock), which is located in Monte da Penha, Guimarães. The architect of the temple was Marcus da Silva, whose project was for a church in an Art Deco style, with straight lines that do not follow the classical canons. Construction began in 1930 and lasted 17 years,the architect died three months before the official opening in 1947. The material from which the church was built is a local granite. Nossa Senhora do Carmen da Penha offers baptisms and wedding ceremonies, with a mxximum capacity of 200 seats.
