    In 1876 the American Plains Indian Nations were struggling to make a stand to preserve their nomadic lifestyles. The United States Cavalry was trying to bring the tribes onto reservations. In June of 1876 Col. George Custer was leading elements of the 7th U.S. Cavalry to accomplish this end. However braves of the Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapahoe nations combined forces to overwhelm Custer. This action took place at the site of the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. The monument is open year round. Always opens at 8 a.m. with closing times varying according to the time of year; check the web site for the month which you are interested in visiting. There is no charge to visit the National Cemetery. Wildlife watching, talks at the visitor center by the park rangers and guided bus tours (additional fees) are available. The entrance fee is $10 per private vehicle, $5 for pedestrians (including motorcycles). Vans and Mini Buses 7 -25 people is $40.
