Lava Beds National Monument (Tulelake, USA)

Lava Beds National Monument near Tulelake is located on the north-eastern side of Medicine Lake Volcano. The 46,000-acre attraction encompasses more than 700 lava tube caves, numerous Native American archaeological and cultural sites, and a high-desert wilderness environment. In addition to the lava tubes, visitors can observe such geological formations as lava flows, cinder cones, and lava beds. The volcanic landscape provided the Modoc people with a dramatic backdrop for their pictographs and petroglyphs, as well as strategic network of shelters offering refuge against the encroachments of European Americans. Facilities include a visitor centre and museum, a network of trails connecting the park’s points of interest, camping spaces, and an amphitheatre. The park is open the year-round, and modest fees are changed for admission and for use of the camp ground.
