The Jotunheim is the largest Alpine-type region in Norway and was declared a National Park in 1980. The landscape consists of many glaciers, valleys and mountains which include the two highest Scandinavian peaks namely Galdhøpiggen (2 469m) and Glittertind (2 452m). The National Park covers an area of 1151 square kilometres and the name translates as “Home of Giants” which refers to the ice giants of the Edda. The National Park Centre and local tourist information office are located in Lom, which is accessible by daily buses from Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim.
