Jagdish Temple (Udaipur, India)

Jagdish Temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1651, in the Hindu architectural science style of “Vastushstra”. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, preserver of the Universe. It is Udaipurs largest temple, and it is covered with sculptures of dancers, elephants, horsemen and musicians. The entrance consists of two huge stone elephants either side of a steep marble stair access. Once in the main shrine, you’ll see a black stone sculpture of the four-armed image of Lord Vishnu. Around this main shrine are four smaller shrines and the 79 feet high spire above the pyramidal roof. The three storey temple has 50 pillars on each of the first two floors. Situated in the centre of the city, it is now known as the Jagdish-ji and is a major tourist attraction.
