Green Gables (Cavendish, Canada)

Green Gables is part of the Lucy Maud Montgomery National Historic Site. The house is the site of inspiration for Montgomery’s famous novel, Anne of Green Gables. The farmhouse was home to Montgomery’s relatives – David and Margaret Macneill – and while Montgomery never lived in the house herself, she spent a great deal of time wandering about in the woods that surround it. Parks Canada has filled Green Gables with Victorian furnishings which mirror the descriptions set forth in the book. A number of trails provide visitors with an opportunity to explore the grounds. Highlights of the Green Gables site that relate to Montgomery’s novel include the Haunted Woods and Lover’s Lane. A puppet show and short film are offered as entertainment during the summer months. The grounds feature a large gift shop and a small cafe. Entrance fees vary – depending on the time of year – and can be found on the website. Parking is free on-site. Green Gables is open to the public year round. Hours of operation are as follows.
