Complejo Arqueológico de Chan Chan (Trujillo, Peru)

Pre-Columbian archaeological site covering an area of approximately 20 square km. It was built by the Chimu around AD 850 but did not survive the Inca conquest in AD 1470. The site was discovered by the Conquistador Francisco Pizzaro. The archaeological area has ceremonial rooms, burial chambers, temples, and some residences. The area is an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
