    Canyons of the Ancients National Monument near Dolores, Colorado is an area of approximately 164,000 acres which was declared a National Monument on June 9, 2000 and is administered by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The aim of this National Monument is to protect the largest concentration of U.S. archeological sites and it includes more than 6000 structures and reservoirs found in prehistoric settlements. The Lowry Pueblo site is wheelchair accessible and provides a picnic area and toilet facilities. Visitors can also admire the rock art at Painted Hand Pueblo, hike the 6.5 mile Sand Canyon Trail or simply enjoy the interactive exhibits and library at the Anasazi Heritage Center which is the starting point for visiting the area. The Center is open from 09h00 to 17h00 March-October and 10h00 to 16h00 November-February.
