Blackwater Falls State Park (Davis, USA)

Blackwater Falls State Park consists of 2,358 acres of upland forest along the Blackwater River in Tucker County, West Virginia. Over time, the river has created a deep gorge along its path, and within this gorge are a number of ancillary streams and several waterfalls. The best known of these is the 60-ft high Blackwater Falls. The canyon, river, and falls take their name from the high levels of tannic acid found in the river. The park’s recreational offerings include 20 miles of hiking trails, 10 miles of cross country ski trails, a sledding hill, fishing, mountain biking, nature center and programs, and summer boating on Lake Pendleton. The park also manages a lodge with 54 guestrooms, plus 26 cabins, 65 campsites, and a number of picnic shelters. The lodge includes a small conference center, on-premises restaurant, in-door swimming pool, game room, lounge with fireplace, and two gift shops. As of 2009, all rooms in the lodge are non-smoking. Cabins are fully furnished on a self-catering basis. Reservations are recommended for the campgrounds and shelters, as well as for the lodge and cabins.
