Barrio Chino (Buenos Aires City, Argentina)

Barrio Chino is located in a part of Belgrano and translates into English as China town. Tourists and locals are tempted to Barrio Chino for the Chinese cuisine served in the many restaurants and also for the shops that sell spices and the many ingredients of Chinese food that can be bought here. The origins of this China town date back to the early 1980’s when Chinese immigrants first began to settle in this part of Buenos Aires. Today it is home to a large Chinese and Taiwanese community and hosts a New Year festival on the 22nd of January each year when the streets are decorated in red and yellow and dragon like puppets are paraded through the streets.
