The Scarlet Huntington, formerly known as The Huntington Hotel, is a 4-star hotel, just half a mile from San Francisco’s Union Square and in the fashionable Nob Hill district. Individually designed rooms and suites enjoy spectacular views. They are colorfully decorated with air conditioning, telephone, complimentary toiletries, desk space, hairdryer, seating area and flat screen TV. Rooms are serviced on a daily basis. The Huntington Hotel (Scarlet) has a 24 hour front desk, indoor infinity pool, hot tub, conference spaces, dry cleaning/laundry service, fitness facilities and spa. Free WiFi is available, in addition to valet parking (surcharge). Breakfast is served daily and later dining consists of New American themed cuisine in the Big 4 Restaurant and Bar. The Golden Gate Bridge is a 10 minute drive away and it’s an easy 15 minute walk to Fisherman’s Wharf. A cable car station is situated immediately in front of the hotel.
All the ingredients are here for a memorable visit. The staff and management are friendly, helpful and efficient. Housekeeping is daily and thorough, in rooms that are spacious, attractively decorated and comfortable. Views are spectacular and varied, including those over the park and to Grace Cathedral.
It's handy for many San Francisco attractions and there's a tram stop opposite to transport those not keen on walking. The Big 4 Restaurant has lots of old world charm; it even has a live pianist. There's free WiFi in the lobby + spectacular views galore, even including from the indoor pool.
Great views come at a cost and that is the elevated position; resulting in an uphill struggle from many attractions. Antidotes include the cable car line, just outside the hotel and the Powell line, just 2 blocks away.
It leaves a nasty taste to find that, having spent so much on hotel improvements, free WiFi exists only in the lobby. Pay extra to get it in your room. Not a good idea on the hotel's part!
The decorative theme is, for whatever reason, one of a tawdry nightclub, planted firmly in the 60s. It doesn't marry well with the facilities and image that the hotels is promoting. Surely, it's time for a quickie divorce and a re-think!
Car parking costs are extortionate and bite a hefty chunk out of the holiday budget. You'll need a drink to get over it; but avoid the hotel bar! That too is very OTT, pricewise.
