They save the day on a number of occasions and staff input detracts attention away from some of the hotel's negative points.

Rooms are well appointed and beds deserve a special mention for being exceptionally comfortable..

Rooms, by and large, are … quite large. Plenty of space. If attending a social event, the banqueting areas are equally spacious and impressive.

Surface clean is the correct description. Scratch the rather sticky surfaces and discover dirty curtains and a bathroom that needs a thorough clean. Mirrors are dirty and in the public areas, empty vending machines are another example of lax standards. Not good enough for the prices charged.

A number of areas may be somewhat lacking, but they certainly know how to charge, excessively, in the bar and restaurant. Unlike many hotels, breakfast is actually quite good - but it isn't complimentary.

Adding to room cleaning woes; coffee isn't replenished and the only way to get replacement towels is to ‘steal' them from the cleaning trolley in the corridor. They have been known to duplicate the room allocation so as you relax on the bed after a long journey, don't be surprised if another new arriving, guest enters the room! This is unsettling and a reflection on the front desk which can become disorganized under pressure. Noise is a factor too. There's no sound insulation and the corridor noise can be particularly noticeable. Elevators and WiFi are quite ‘wonky' and unreliable.
