One of Trivago's top hotels in the West Midlands for 2015, The Townhouse is an authentic setting for a theatre break to Stratford-Upon-Avon. A 400 year-old grade II listing building pays host to this vibrant hotel restaurant and bar, just two minutes from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The 12 cosy en-suite rooms, all of different sizes, include super king-size bed and drench shower as well as TV, DVD player and iPod dock. Free W-Fi is available to all guests as well as a selection of DVDs. Guests can soak up live piano recitals in the bar at the end of each afternoon, before dinner in the restaurant. A special set theatre menu can be enjoyed before heading out to catch a play. The restaurant also serves light lunches and afternoon teas. The Church Street Townhouse is right opposite Shakespeare's school and 5 minutes walk from his birthplace and Holy Trinity Church.
Guests are thrilled to find a small decanter of port and short-bread in their rooms on arrival. Along with a nice selection of toiletries, this makes the guests feel appreciated and gets them in the right mood.
Everything at the hotel comes together to generate a vibrant atmosphere. The live piano recitals - from students at Shakespeare's former school King Edward's - in the busy bar builds up the ambiance. The pre-theatre buzz of excitement then grows stronger in the restaurant, aided by its exquisite food and elegant Gothic furnishings.

The rooms seem to vary a lot in terms of comfort and size. People in the best rooms appear to enjoy very comfortable stays, whilst those in the cheaper rooms suffer from more nuisances. The main problem being the noise. Certain rooms are right next to the bar or suffer from poor sound-insulation - a side-effect of being in a 400 year old listed building. Some found the décor to be less opulent than they were expecting and the rooms to be a bit shabby and small.
Some guests found the service in the restaurant to be slow and even disorganised at times. This can be distressing for guests attending a play and expecting quick service with a pre-theatre menu or waiting to check-in. The problem seems to be made worse when the hotel is catering for a large group.
