A major refurbishment is ongoing, providing modernised features within the character of a seventeenth century venue. Take a tour of the artefacts using the handy audio guide to gain a fuller understanding of these intriguing people and then relax in the lounge or cafe with a piece of cake afterwards.  Stunning countryside and gardens surround the building - vast, varied and perfect for a long, relaxing afternoon walk and picnic in the sun.  Very quiet, restful setting.  Plenty of parking available; just follow the signs.  Just a short stroll conveniently reaches town centre and the lively activities of Ulverston as well.

Lovely, refurbished rooms with clean bathrooms and showers.  New modern amenities are a nice touch.  If you choose self-catering, you'll be provided a full basket of items each morning to prepare for yourself in the clean, well-equipped kitchen area.  Excellent value for the money.

Excellent, helpful staff set the tone for the calm and serene atmosphere here and will attend to your every need.

If you are taller than six feet, you may feel the beds are too small here - however, they are reportedly 'standard-size.'

Some have been dismayed to find there is no daily housekeeping to come change bedding, linens, etc. in the rooms.  They may come in occasionally to replenish the tea/coffee making provisions, but you may need to ask for it.

Some found the history less exciting than others and left disappointed.
