Hotel Sunrise Suites (Kalives, Greece)

Guests certainly sang the praises of this family-run property. The rooms here are basic, but spacious and spotless. Unlike other hotels, guests were gratified to find that Wi-Fi and AC are included in the base rate. This started the stay off on the right foot and the warm, welcoming staff only added to the good vibes. Guests report that the team goes out of their way to assist and continued to ask after visitors during their stays. This has earned this property many repeat guests, with visitors coming back to the hotel again and again.

For many, the heart and soul of this property is its pool area. Guests noted that it is kept well-maintained and there always seem to be an abundance of sun loungers here.

The staff, the overall quality of the accommodation as well as the location of this property - close to a number of beaches and on a handy bus route - meant that many felt that this hotel represented excellent value for money in this part of Crete.

Despite its overall excellence, there are a number of points for improvement here. First and foremost, this property is located up a steep hill, a gradient that caused some a bit of trouble.

The nearest beach is accessed down a footpath. Many out after twilight advised bringing torches to illuminate the way home after dark. Also, some - especially those with younger children - were concerned to find that this property is located on a busy road.

Finally, while many found the breakfast here to be more than adequate, others were bemused by the cold fried eggs on offer.
