Situated right opposite Rome’s main Opera House, and just minutes’ from Termini Station, the Hotel Opera Roma Hotel offers guests classical Roman décor in the very heart of the Eternal City. The rooms and suites have a classical Roman feel to them, and feature air conditioning, minibar, flat screen satellite TV’s, private bathrooms, in-room safes, telephones and work desks. Suites have jacuzzi baths in addition. Reception is open 24 hours and can assist with tours, transfers and luggage storage. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building. An American breakfast buffet is available form 7:00 to 10:00 AM, and lunch is also available at the bar. For other meals reception staff will be happy to offer excellent dining recommendations. Drop a coin in Trevi Fountain before you leave. It is less than a mile from the hotel. The Vatican, with its museums and St Peter’s Basilica, is 2.7 miles to the west.
Given the Opera's central location, it was inevitable that this would be what guests found most attractive about the property. And they certainly did. Guests liked the location both because it was close to Terminal Station, well within walking distance, and also that Rome's main tourist sites and street life were all just a short stroll from the hotel.
A surprising number of guests commented on how comfortable the bed in their room was. Complaints were thin on the ground, despite hotel bed comfort being a notoriously contentious point. Perhaps other hoteliers could ask the Opera for some mattress buying tips.
Though reviews of staff attitude and level of service were mixed, the majority of guests commented that they were very friendly and accommodating during their stay.
Unfortunately it was rare to find a guest who had anything good to say about the breakfast in recent reviews. It was described as meagre, and some say made with very poor ingredients. In any event, it may simply be a good idea to forego the hotel breakfast for one at a favourite café nearby instead.
While guests understood they were in a prime position, many nevertheless felt their rooms were a bit too small for comfort. To compound the problem some also felt that rooms sold in the same class varied quite a bit in size, making those in the smaller rooms feel a bit cheated.
The hotel is located on a couple of floors in a building that also contains offices and other places to stay. While this is a fairly normal arrangement in Italy, it is not elsewhere, and some guests were a bit uncomfortable with the set-up.
